The Start Of My Pyrex Mania

It all started with this dish... one single dish....
It just so happened that I was at my grandmother's house a couple of years ago while she was doing some cleaning out of her kitchen cabinets. Well being the nosy granddaughter that I always was, I started snooping around and found her set of three 'Daisy Pyrex' dishes. Immediately she asked if I wanted them?  Well of course I wanted them?  Do you have any idea how many meals she served in those near perfect condition bowls?  I vividly remember having banana pudding out of them, her ever loved 'Nan-Naw Beans' from the garden, tomato/okra gumbo... the list just goes on.  These dished are always in my mind of 'Nan-Naw memories' and still are, as I use them ever so gently in my own home.

Just this week, I pulled out the big yellow bowl and served my all time favorite comfort food - ground meat/noodles!   Yea... I know... not an original name, but most will recognize it as homemade hamburger helper.
Life is good when I can have my comfort food served in my Nan-Naw dish!  I'm sure I will continue to miss her daily, but there is hardly ever a meal served in our house that I don't use one of her dishes or some other kitchen utensil that she handed down to me, probably thinking I would just chunk it! :)  The fact of the matter is that those are the prized possessions in my kitchen and now look at what she's done - I've turned into a Pyrex Junkie and can't get enough.

Oh and never think for a moment that I've forgotten about the Pyrex nesting bowls in the Butterprint pattern that my own mother is hoarding in her kitchen cabinets!!! This woman never cooks and certainly doesn't use these mixing bowls any longer, but do you think she would let me have them... not on your life!  Well.. not yet anyway! (ha ha ha) I've taken inventory - I know what's there... don't think I won't keep my eye on them!

September is National Chicken Month

Can you believe it... the chickens have a month of celebrations?
Just in case you are having a hard time believing this,  go here to see for yourself! LOL

Since I am not a fan of eating chicken, I will leave you with an adorable quilt of chickens.  This is definitely on my 'get to' list!

Hold on to your hats! I was in the mood to sew!!!

Believe it or not, I had a few minutes of solitude while all of the girls were out of the house doing their own thing and actually sat down a finished a project!  Yes, I expect the world to fall off of it's axis at any moment... or at the very least some sort lunar eclipse to occur?

Friday while surfing the Internet at work and watching the clock slowly tick down to 5 PM, I stumbled upon a pumpkin pattern that appeared to be easy enough that someone with a short attention span could accomplish.  In fact when I look at projects that I want to take on, my first consideration is always whether or not I will have the mental energy to see it through or whether or not I will be able to squeeze it in during commercials of "Reba" or "Everybody Loves Raymond"?  Hey -it's all about priorities in my house!

Yesterday was obviously a slow TV day for me and I had already seen all of the Episodes of "Cake Boss", so I felt it was a safe bet I could actually get a pumpkin made.  What do ya' know?  I did!

Eh?  I wasn't too impressed with the way it turned out.  It's cute enough, but it's too short and squaty for my taste.  I think I'll try it again using a bigger panel pattern and this time I'll use all the same fabric.  Plus the felt leaf and button top just didn't do much for me... so back to the drawing board.  At least I know what I do not want to do this time around.

It's the little things in life....

Right?   Isn't that what everyone says will make you happy?  The little things?????

Well.... keep that thought in your mind when I show you a couple of little things that make me happy!

Who wouldn't be happy with Vintage Red Pyrex Bowls!  LOVE THEM!!

Not only is RED my most favorite happy color, but I'm a bit of a Vintage Pyrex snob!   It's a little secret that I like to keep under my kitchen cabinet, but I'm afraid my hoarding is about to overflow...and soon the people that load and unload my dishwasher are going to figure out my little problem!

When I stumbled upon these two lovelies on Etsy, I simply had to make them mine.  How could I pass them up? They were only $10!! Uh Hello.... if that doesn't scream "AMY, you must buy us", then I I don't know what does.

I should have these in my hoarding hands in just a few days!  CAN'T WAIT!!!

One of these days when I don't have so many witnesses to see me pull all of my vintage Pyrex goodies out of my kitchen cabinets, I will take pictures and show you my treasures!  But until then... it will be our little secret. Okay? Shhhhhhh......

Can you believe I finally finished a project?

It's a miracle!

Earlier this summer, I decided I wanted a bright and cheerful quilted table topper for my kitchen table.  I spent a few hours ooohing and awwing over some that I found on Etsy and decided that I could probably make one for myself?

DUH? I do have a sewing machine and I have drawers full of fabric?  I should probably make use of what I already have and is already paid for.  (What an original idea?)

So I set about to make my own quilted table topper...basically I had no pattern in mind or any sort of organized idea.  I discovered that I already had a 4" square pattern template and I had some fat quarters that I thought would work out to be cheerful and bright for the summer. There was my idea - 4 inch squares cut out of fat quarters and trimmed in RED!

I don't know why I bother worrying that the fabric matches or not - it's not as if anyone in my house has a clue that the thing is even on the table?  I'm sure I could ask any one of them and NO ONE would be able to tell me what colors were in the topper, much less if they matched or had a theme?

(Please forgive the blurriness... took the picture on my phone)
Oh well... I made it anyway and I actually finished in the same season I started it!  Nothing short of a miracle!

Next up is a table runner than I am working on for fall.  Any bets on whether or not it's finished by Valentine's Day?

Happy Labor Day and Happy 3 Day Weekend!

Woo Hoo... Hip Hip Hooray.... Yahoooooo...... and all that jazz!  THREE DAY WEEKEND!! No work, No school!

We have now been back to school for two whole weeks and so far, so good.  No major diva drama to speak of and if you know anything about my crazy life, you understand this is a miracle! I just jinxed myself, you realize that? Right?

Since I've last blogged, I've turned 41 (SHUTTERING)!!  I gotta say that being in my 40's feels much more liberating than turning 18, 21 or even 30?  I wonder why that is?  I sorta feel like I can say or do whatever I want and I absolutely don't care who may or may not like it?  Maybe the 40's are the LIBERATING years?  This could be a good thing for me, and a bad thing for others - but then again - I don't care! :)

Since the 100* temps have finally decided to give us a break, I'm dragging out the pumpkin spice candle and calling this FALL!  Oh, I realize we still have about three more weeks of Summer, but I"m officially done with it.  I need to have something to look forward to, so if you see my blog covered in pumpkin pie pictures or fall home decorations, just go with it and let me have my fun!   I now declare it to be FALL in my world!
